Supergrass: Caught By The Fuzz (Parlophone)
It's all in the eyes, you see. In recent photos, Billy Joe from Green Day (a million albums and counting...) has mastered this stare of dead-eyed arrogance. The kind of look that says, "That is a camera and I couldn't give a flying fandango because it is just IN MY WAY". Gaz, singer in Supergrass, has that same frankly-I-can't-be-arsed glaze, and - a million album sales notwithstanding - it is supremely justified.
'Caught By The Fuzz' stumbles in like a Palitoy 'Pretty Vacant' and then promptly shoves the 'cocky' into (umm) 'Buzzcocky' with a story of teenage trauma which features the inimitable PC Plod enquiry "Who sold you the blow?" and has the good grace to namedrop "Mum". Young! Stupid! Sey! Hysterical! Buzzing! Two and a half blinking minutes long! The essence of pop in other words.
Voicei le son des jeunes.
